This sake is a winner of the International Sake Challenge 2009 Gold award. This sake has a wheaty, grassy nose that is typical of a yamahai sake. The palate, however, is rich and spicy with a medium finish. This sake is not released every year and the most current vintage now is 2015. This sake is slowed aged at close to freezing point and achieve more and more complexity as it is matures.
Rikyubai is named after a cherry tree in the garden of the brewery. It is the traditional label consumed around the brewery for decades.
